Art & Apothecary

We are delighted to be planning for our 4th year of Art and Apothecary Camp!

Sorry. This camp has been cancelled!

This year we will be slightly expanded from previous years (in numbers and in creative options)…. Because my dear friend, and colleague, Natalia Bernal, will be teaching camp with me! She is a yoga teacher, a song writer, and a girl-whisperer in both English and Spanish. And an all around gem. I know your daughters will love her!

As with other years, Art and Apothecary Camp is first and foremost about creating a warm, creative little community of girls who enjoy hanging out and making magic together. Our aim is to give girls the chance to deepen a sense of connection to themselves, to one another, and to the plant and animal “allies” all around us. We hope to enliven their sense of confidence and wonder as each girl gets to know and express that unique animating fire that she has inside, all her own.

Like previous years, we will start our day doing art in our “junk journals.” Girls will have the option of hand-making a journal out of recycled materials. So don’t throw away all those end-of-school year home work sheets or school newsletters! We will transform them from “blah” to “beautiful” thereby bringing closure to the last school year and opening to a new school year’s possibilities. We will explore a wide range of mixed media art supplies so the girls can experience layering materials as they listen inwardly for the “ah-ha” that lets them know when they have created visual soul medicine.

In the afternoon, we will do special apothecary projects such as candle and soap-making,mini herbal gardens and healing kits. Some familiar activities that girls who’ve been with us in the past might recognise, and some brand new. These activities are designed to help girls rediscover the magic of the natural world and the many ways the Earth transpires to heal, nourish and delight us.

This Summer, those who have been with us before will be happy to know we will be back on our property at 2428 Jefferson for ample play time in the tree house, lunchtime hot-tub time, and for our culminating “spa days” at the end of each week. We will also be venturing out a bit more than other years to enjoy some local parks and “inspiration walks.”
